What chassis would you REALLY buy?

I see all these threads on Pirate with people jacking off to pics of different manufacturer's chassis. Everyone always says its the toughest chassis and its what they would buy but half of them I look at and KNOW I could bent the shit out of them just by abuse.

So what chassis are out there that will REALLY hold up to 47's, rockwells, 500 ft/lbs, and southeastern rocks?

You will bend/break everything driving like a dummy with big horsepower.

With that said, I think most of the well know players make a good chassis: twisted, campbell, hendrix, S&N, solid mfg, jim's garage, blue torch, coleworx, blah, blah, blah.... Ya know the shops that have been around for several years and produced a chassis with a good rep.

Does anyone make the perfect chassis? Nope. It's all a compromise.

What would I buy? If I had a pile of cash I'd buy a turn key twisted customs rig. But I don't, so I made my own chassis.

The problem isn't so much the chassis design or terrain IME, it is totally the driver!
The last one I did I basically built a strong around the driver and compromised everything else!
Why?
Simple, this driver will overdrive the chassis making it do things that it flat can not do! Well at-least according to PBB and the local club. "They" are of course wrong because I know the driver and 'They" do not!

To make the chassis strong enough I would place you in the seat and build around you... "IF" when I was done some weeks later and you could see out the chassis would not be strong enough! Short of that it is all about compromises!

I would look for parallel "frame-rails" and a builder that knows why they are sized differently.

Pick your poison I personally love the looks of Coleworx chassis but I've seen them bent up too.With a little work anyone could build a tank but the power to weight ratio becomes stupid.So bend or buy what you would feel comfortable in to drive.As rock rig said above sometimes you'll find you know more then the guy doing it.We're human and we've found nothing yet that we can't destroy.

I bought a Jim's Garage Chassis (Rockmafia from Pirate and NC4x4.com) because the rigs he built before mine were holding up well with big setups. One of the recent setups was a cruiser style cab and a half (he took the 4 seater design he did for me and left the seats out for storage) with a 350, rockwells, and 47's. The rig is holding up to some great southeastern abuse. He also build BigWoody's rig (a good friend of his) who you can find videos of abuse all over Pirate at all of the major southeastern parks. Jim builds the chassis in his garage in Greensboro and can build chassis to full turn key rigs. The part I liked about it, is my chassis is built for My setup, 2 kids, rockwells, Lt-1, 44's. Thats what I wanted and thats what he build the chassis around. I like that better than alot more money for a chassis that is duplicated constantly and not necessarily designed for my drivetrain, etc.

I'd buy Coleworks if I could just buy a turn key big HP buggy. Hendrix chassis' are affordable and work but not the sexiest I've seen.

Sized different...from side to side, or from the rest of the chassis? I'm not a builder (yet) but I wanna know why, if you're willing to explain!

Also...from the perspective of a fabrication newb...I'm pondering an F-Toy chassis, because of the (relative) simplicity and cost in building a running trail toy. That doesn't answer your question in the post, tho I s'pose it answers the thread title...

Wrong direction, and sorry I was not clear.
As viewed from the side lower and upper rails.
Lower rails will be in tension so they can be smaller tube where the upper rails are in compression so they should be larger tube.
Not that I have ever seen a single chassis built this way, and probably for good reason.

X2 on the Rockmofia (Jim) chassis. I have seen his in action and they hold up and are very nicely built.

His chassis holds up very well to big setups, but I just cant stand the way the rear looks! I know its personal preference, nothing wrong with it all.
