wanted: expert on schedule 40 pipe!

I need an expert on the size/dimensions of schedule 40.

Looking for permissible sizes of interior weld.

i cant find anything that deals with the size of the weld encroaching into the ID in the ASTM A53 spec. just permissible wall thicknesses.

could one assume that if the weld protrudes into the ID that it is an increase in the wall thickness?

help please. its sort of a company emergency.

Am i looking at the wrong ASTM spec?

try looking at ASME B16.5, this covers pipe flanges and flanged fittings but also covers butt weld joints and welding. Also look at B31.3 process piping...watch out, they are expensive.

EDIT: B31.3 is where you want to go, Chapter 5 page 57 Acceptance criteria for welds is on page 76...hope this helps.

Thats what I am talking about!!! Chapter, Page, Paragraph and verse. Nobody can argue that, it's not subjective or based on some vague "I heard or thats how we" gut kind of spec. Thats the reason I hang out here instead of the "welding" site. Good, clean, verifiable info. Thanks Lincoln!!!!
