How to Build a Heavy Duty Diff Cover

If you have access to a CNC torch/plasma cutter/laser cutter or water jet; OR if you just want to cut the ring out yourself that works just fine. HOWEVER if you want the EASY and effort free way to start this project, I would suggest buying a pre made laser cut Differential Ring. I STRONGLY suggest this if you are like me and HATE drilling holes that have to be accurate.

Then ground it smooth on front and back. After that I drilled the bolt holes (pilot holes are shown in this picture because I haven’t drilled them out to 3/8” yet.)

Cool Good work

I just finished the design of the 1 piece style, I hate the holes too! I used stock 44, 60, and 14B covers on a plotter after tracing and then scanning. Could have gotten one off the net but you never can be sure someone isn't just throwing something out there to screw someone up. Should have about a hundred done in a couple of weeks. I am going to make half of them and sell half as kits.

I wish I was better with AutoCad though, could have saved a whole bunch of hours.....If I ever have a free minute I might take a class.

I just ordered my diff ring from my local shop and I'll be doing this project this weekend. My question is, if I wanted to add a fill hole in the cover, would it just be a matter of drilling the hole and threading it? Is it worth the trouble? Great write-up by-the-way!

Are there drawings for the diff rings available online anywhere?
