Problem/ question about new bender

Hi all-

I got a new toy for the shop, and I am having problems.

I bought a Baileigh RDB 350 rotary draw bender with the 20 foot rotary index table.

For the most part, I only make handrail with this bender. I also have bend tech 7 SE

My problems so far. 1. When I set up the profile of the bend I have to always press the reverse bend order to get the correct order to bend the pipe. Is there a way to make this a default setting?

My next problem is trying to figure the correct order to bend the pipe in. I have some handrails that return to a wall. The problem is sometimes I have to tick the box for reverse bend order. Then I have to switch the order of bending.

The problem is that if I forget to change something, or tick a box, I scrap a 35.00 piece of pipe.

The last problem is setting up bend tech. I was under the impression that Bend Tech would help me with minimum clearance for the die to the machine. I can’t find this or I found it and don’t know how to set it up correctly.

Can anyone guide me in the right direction?

Has anyone bought the bend tech handrail module? Did it help????

Thanks.

Steve

I haven't used Bend Tech in quite a while, but I remember there was a simulation/video feature that would show how the part is made, including flips. Before you print instructions, you might want to watch that simulation and make sure the part is being flipped when it needs to be. If not, you can adjust your checkboxes accordingly.

I can't recall where the settings are for minimum length between bends, but I want to say they are part of the tool/die settings.

Pretty sure it outputs bends in the order you create them, so try starting at the opposite end of your plan when you create a part if this makes it easier to bend.
I am not sure if SE can do minimum but regardless this is something you need to be aware of when you design something, find the measurement and remember your benders limitations. I do the same thing when designing for my CNC's, knowing the machine's and cutter's limitations so to speak.
Maybe some practice with inexpensive material to get it figured out, I love BT and can't imagine not having it to bend tube but like any tool it take a bit to get the desired results.

I guess my biggest issue right now is rotation. How much can I rotate the tube before it hit the frame of the bender. I can rotate in one direction more than in the other.

When I am spending all day bending, it is no problem. But after a few days I forget everything.

What happens when someone else tries? So it would be nice to figure everything out, and let the bend tech figure it out.

Have you tried reaching out to BT directly?
I know they have always helped me.

Back from vacation. Now time to get serious about the bender!

Has anyone ever used the handrail module in BT? I have been looking for screenshots of what it is capable of. Can’t find much.
